Cookie policy
shrthnd keeps cookies to a minimum. We only use what's needed to sign you in, remember your preferences and run a scan — no advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
What cookies & local storage are
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. Related technologies — local storage and session storage — let a site remember small pieces of information on your device. We use all three sparingly, and only as first-party storage (set by shrthnd, not third parties).
What we use, and why
| Name | Type | Purpose | Lasts |
|---|---|---|---|
| PHPSESSID | Essential cookie | Keeps your session — signs you in and remembers you across pages. Also holds an anonymous token so a scan you start before signing up can be linked to your account. | Up to 60 days, or until you sign out |
| sh-theme | Preference (local storage) | Remembers whether you chose light or dark mode. | Until you clear it |
| sh-job / sh-ready | Functional (session storage) | Tracks an in-progress scan or content generation so the spinner and "your content is ready" state follow you across pages. | Cleared when you close the tab |
All of the above are strictly necessary or functional — the app can't work as intended without them — so they don't require consent under POPIA or the GDPR. We do not use advertising, marketing or cross-site tracking cookies.
Third-party cookies
We don't embed third-party advertising or analytics trackers. If you sign in with Google, Apple or Microsoft, or pay through our payment processor, that provider may set its own cookies on its own pages under its own policy — we don't control those.
Managing cookies
You can clear or block cookies and local storage in your browser settings, and clear this site's storage at any time. Because our cookies are essential, blocking them may stop you from signing in or using parts of shrthnd.
Changes
If we introduce new cookies or storage, we'll update this page and the "last updated" date, and — where the law requires consent — ask for it first.
